Concept I was inspired by polyglots for this app. I had used an app called Anki before which is a well known resource in the language learning community. It used spaced repetition and flash cards to help you learn. While the functionality was great the usability and the interface left me wanting. I designed this mobile app as a response to the pain points I felt in Anki.
My Design Process I did competitor research, then designed wireframes and assembled a click through prototype using InVision. After getting feedback I launched into designing mock ups. I wanted to use a gamification system of assigning points if you studied that day, comparing the points with friends, and seeing a chart depicting the progress they made. I also tried to make the experience more personal by letting users choose their icons. We tend to learn using all of our senses.
Outcome What makes verbally different is that users can build their own deck of flash cards and use gifs that delight them and help them learn! These can make boring words funny and more memorable.
